Parivartan 2008 Etymology

The D day has come finally. After about 6 months of hard work done by the Parivartan team and the various volunteers, the Curtains will finally fall and the DMS, IIT Delhi B Fest will be flagged off. The event will finally be worth the wait.

So, what exactly is different about Parivartan? Who needs change? How is change brought about? And is change a journey? What exactly do we mean by the Celestial Odyssey? I will try to answer the following questions in a way that can be understood by all.

Little drops make an ocean. Single people Make a nation. Earning peanuts can make you rich. So what does change bring about? Yes, its a Revolution. A single collapse of the Berlin Wall removed all sorts of geographical barriers and sparked the fire of globalisation, and look where the world is now. So what the students of DMS are aiming at is to bring about a revolution of sorts, and this is done by planting the seeds of change in the minds of all who visit DMS during the next couple of days, who are the future of this nation.

The process of change is a continuous process.The Greek Philosopher Heraclitus espoused this fact in his now famous statement 'The only thing that is constant in this world is change'. This fact has been recognised by Management Gurus worldwide and Change Management is a subject in itself.

DMS sets really high standards across all its activities and that is the main reason we refer to this year's fest as the Celestial Odyssey. We set high goals, and do all that we can to attain those.

Making Sense of Chaos

Business, especially in the Indian sense, has never been as dynamic as it is today. You can never sit back and track it, you need to be on your ties, always socks pulled up, to run with it and make sense of it, for it is probably the most dynamic growth phase for India Inc that we are in.

While such a scenario makes a great time for long articles, good tv shows and intellectual debates, there is one point we all need to address and that is sharpening our managerial acumen by peeping into morrow, and preparing ourselves to handle the future. Carrying upon the same trend, Parivartan 2008 comes up with the theme of BizzBang, drawing parallels between the life of a star and the Indian Business world, for our nation is no less a star than the brightest one in the sky when we speak Business today. Acquisitions worldwide, partnerships with the best-in-class, confidence that could intimidate the global bigwigs, innovation unparalleled, these are just a few facets of India Inc that have been revealed. What lies beneath, and what shall open up tomorrow is something unforeseen, and that is what we try to prepare all of us for at Parivartan 2008.

The best thing to do in present is to peep into the past, understand the roots and then prepare for the great future ahead. That is what we shall do at Parivartan. While we introspect, at both student and corporate level as to what has happened in the Indian Business arena over decades and what made us what we are today, we shall also, through dignitaries from vast areas of corporate world through their anecdotes and experiences learn how to be prepared for handling future our way.
